My Rating: 5/5
Best Place To Buy: Amazon
Asolo Fugitive GTX is the perfect boot for hiking in winter or summer. This boot is well-built by Asolo and it’s capable of lasting for many years if only you have the time to take good care of it.
The Asolo Fugitive is made with a Gore-tex lining, a swanky suede upper, protective rubber toe cap, waterproof and breathable. Below I have gone in-depth into the features on why I think this hiking boot is suitable for both winter and summer.
The upper leather of this boot is made of 1.8 mm suede leather upper. The boot appears to be heavy based on how much leather it is used. However, from my perspective, it is not that heavy when hiking with it. The type of leather (i.e. suede leather) used to make this leather hiking boot is also used in other hiking boots such as Manta Pro GTX. Here is a quick overview of what suede leather is and how amazing it is to use in a hiking boot.
Suede is a material made from animals such as deer, pig, and calf. However, how the suede leather comes out as tick depends solely on what kind of animal is used. For example, using a deep outer skin will make the suede leather very thick compared with using lambskin. This is one of the main reason why this boot has a hard outer leather.
One of the advantages of this material used for this boot is how it makes the inside of the boot very soft and at the same time, it gives you a luxurious feeling when you are hiking with it. On top of that, the suede leather makes this boot very easy to maintain, clean and waterproof.
The best and easiest way to maintain the boot is to let the boot dry first. Once it is dry you then spray it with a conditioner spray. The main reason why it’s suitable to use this approach in cleaning the boot is how it stops the boots from cracking down or losing its design.
Waterproof And Breathable
The Asolo Fugitive GTX is made of a Gore-tex lining. This is another key strength of the boot and that’s why I rate it as 5/5. This is because it is 100% waterproof and breathable. This shows that this boot is very good at dealing with all sorts of rain and you are guaranteed that your feet will stay dry. Moreover, Gore-tex is capable of lasting for a lifetime if only you maintain it very well.
Firstly, there is a leather line on top of the tongue that goes to the end of the toe box. At both ends of the line, there are holes which allows you to put the laces through it. This is cool to have because it gives you that balance and stability as you lace the boot throughout.
Also, the leather line stops the laces from getting out of the holes as you hike. This means you don’t have to re-do the laces over and over again once you manage to do it correctly for the first time.
Secondly, there are eight eyelet holes which looks more like bullet holes. This is comfortable to have because they help you to adjust your laces very easily and quickly. Either you want to loosen or tighten them. Again, it should make your life easy when you stop during the hike to sort out your laces.
Thirdly, there are two lacing holes which are about a few inches away from the tongue. There are many reasons why these two lacing holes are there.
One reason is how you can lace your boot at that point if it makes you feel comfortable. Another reason is how it allows you to tighten the laces very strongly so that the upper side of the boot tights your feet perfectly.
And lastly, there are four stainless steel lacing hook at the top of the boot. This is the final touch to the lacing structure. This part of the lacing hook gives you the opportunity to tighten the laces the way you prefer it.
Furthermore, if you manage to tight all the laces to these four lacing hooks, it will stop the tongue from moving back and forward. When the tongue is not able to move back and forward, it gives you the chance to hike at a fast pace without a lot of destruction.
Now let’s take a look at the toe box. The toe box is a very solid and hard. This is going to protect your feet from getting any serious injury in case you hit something hard like a rock.
In addition, the shape of the toe box fits perfectly with how the boot is designed and the suede leather upper. That is a smart and nice combination from Asolo. It is specifically designed that way to reduce the pressure and weight on the front part of your foot.
Stitching And Heel Tension
Apart from the leather used to make this boot. The majority of the outer layer of the boot is covered with stitches. I love how Asolo have decorated the boot with different colours stitches.
This really makes the boot very beautiful and it gives it a unique appearance when compared with other hiking boots. Which normally has one style of appearance based on the leather used.
The purpose of these stitches on the boot is to stretch and mold around your foot as you use it often. This will really benefit hikers who have narrow feet because it will adapt to your feet quickly.
However, I want to stress the importance of keeping the boot clean and maintaining it. This really helps the stitches from losing its value and design.
The heel tension is a double system with nubuck. This is very solid and strong at protecting your heels as you hike. This will surely suit people who have problems with their heels because it is very comfortable and secure.
The Outsole, Midsole, and Insole
It’s time to now look at the outsole, midsole, and insole. The outsole of this boot is very technical. The side grip of the outsole will give you balance and support when you are slipping or scrambling. This is helpful because it reduces your chances of getting a serious injury.
Also, the outsole has got a neo flat point flex points. This allows you to bend the boot with ease and give you the extra push that you need to climb steeper hills. On top of that, the outsole has got nice gaps in between which gives you a good grip as you hike.
The last thing I want to say about the outsole is how it has got a multi-faceted sole. This means that it is an easy self-cleaning, which you just hit on top of the toe box and all the mud and dirts comes out.
There is a chop absorber on the back side of the boot. This will really give you a lot of shock absorbers when you are jumping down or climbing the hill. It’s very effective than it looks.
The midsole of the boot is made of PU mono density. PU stands for polyurethane and it’s very good at making your feet very comfortable and warm. The midsole of the boot is made in a narrow range which makes it ideal for small or narrow feet. But don’t get me wrong this boot also fit wider foot as well. Since the midsole is a narrow range, it is perfect for walking and hike.
And lastly the insole. The thing with Asolo Fugitive GTX’s insole is that it’s better to use their own. This is because Asolo makes the insole to match the boot. The insole has perforation which can move air around and dries the boot up quickly.
As we come to the conclusion of this post about Asolo Fugitive GTX review. This boot is well-built and it’s can be used in winter or summer. This is because the leather used is very strong and durable. Inside the boot, it’s very breathable and it very good at maintaining your foot temperature during the hike.
Some key strengths of this boot that I feel that it should be rated as 5 out of 5 are the lacing structure, the material used, how beautifully the stitches are done, waterproof and heel tension. All these key features make the boot comfortable and warm to wear. For me, it’s worth the price.
In terms of the weakness of this boot, it is really had to point any negative comment because this boot is exceptionally made to deal with all sorts of conditions. However, since I am encouraging you guys to purchase from Amazon because they are one of the best places to buy anything online.
The drawback Amazon has for this boot is how they only have one colour option which is green. Therefore, it will be great to see if Amazon could add varieties of colours to this boot. For examples, blue, red, yellow or black. Besides this drawback, I think that the green colour is a nice selection from Amazon.
